Let’s make a doco
July 6th 2007 04:07
There used to be this thing in photography that only a wanker would take a photo of a homeless person and shop it round like it’s their big arty social statement.
So it’s sad to see in current doco film-making twats doing just that. I read recently some guy’s doing a film about Aussie movies from the 60s and 70s. He’s chasing up lost actors one he reckons was last sighted doing a waiter’s gig in some café.
Oh yeah – let’s all hunt down the guy and ask him what it’s like, so some Mr Toss-off film-maker can get his project in the can and hump the red carpet.
Or better still, let’s hunt down the film-maker and hammer some artistic dignity into his love-myself attitude – maybe like how to get your 15 and still live with yourself.
Like those young girls in the doco, Cunnamulla – no film-maker has the right to exploit and ruin a person’s life for the shot.
And how’s that show; Where Are They Now – talk about slowing down to look at a traffic accident. Those two mock-puppets that host it – Hemingway said; artistic dignity is like virginity once you’ve lost it you never get it back.
Not related but still on docos, I hear a film about a Sydney toy collector got a gig at Cannes this year. Funny thing is, Duke and I started the shop that guy ended up with. I haven’t seen the film or met the film-maker but the collector’s life is a sad story for a whole lot of reasons – many I’m sure never get a run in the film.
Until next time and happy film-making.
