Johnny Depp, cool?

Unlike Paris Hilton, my connections allow me to defuse any incarceration with the option of community service. This time it was taking two tweens to Pirates of the Caribbean Three: At World’s End.
A simular offence led me to seeing the last Pirates instalment so I was well-up with the plot.
How was it?
You know, the multi sequel concept works against itself. It sort of yells; hey, film is just like TV. Which is sad because it’s not. But saying that, new world cinemas are laid out just like the average home entertainment space, except at home we choose who to sit next to. So there’s a loss of magic even before the film starts.
Old school movie-house watching was the high-end cinematic experience. The cinema’s interior design added to the magic and journey. The audience were transported into a world of unreality, the lights slowly dimmed and then – KAPOW the movie started.
How cool was that.
Now, the lights dip, it’s 25 minutes of commercials and then the feature – bout as magical as a home haircut.
So how does Johnny stack up?
He does Jack Sparrow well. Maybe too well. He makes most of the others look like they’re just waiting round for him to come on set. But the most important thing is, the kids like him and the film. That’s the target market along with some added goo-goo-eyed Depp fans thrown in.
There’s also some awesome FX for those who think driving a Falcon is cool.
Which I do.
And…and I know I shouldn’t say it, but out of Mr Bloom and the monkey – the monkey has the better lines.
Until next time and happy film-making.
