Happy New Year

Recently I watched Matthew Scott’s latest film, Questions. It’s a Guerilla feature and it’s inspiring to see people in Australia actually producing low-budget films.
In Australian film-making there’s no sense of community because everyone looks at everyone else as the person that will get what they need.
Money.
If you don’t step on their heads they’ll get what you want.
Money.
It’s called; getting in first. Like before your bothers and sisters latch onto Mum and Dad’s financial hand-outs leading up to a Friday big night out.
Guerrilla film-making is supposed to be self-funded. In theory everyone’s success helps everyone else. A buzz gets generated and markets open up.
But sadly, few think like that. They hang onto the; every-man-for-himself attitude. And that’s why it’s so hard.
For Duke and me there is no professional jealousy. We make the films we like to watch. Plenty of other people make the films we like to watch and that’s super-cool. If everyone pitched in to help each other, then there might actually be an industry, Guerilla or otherwise that’s credible.
When people fight for money they haven’t actually earned – that’s when the cry-baby factor kicks in.
“Billy got a Playstation for Christmas and all I got was a bicycle – boo-hoo.”
Billy sucks up – he gets the Government money, he’s been to filmschool.
Until next time and happy film-making.
