Good to see that apart from filming people in the shower Big Brother has given something back to the art world. BB’s Dutch creator has bought Hammer Horror film studios and together with DVD releases from the back catalogue has promised new productions. Go schlock.
Anyway.
People are always stopping me in the street and asking me questions and emailing me – I get a lot of Dear Leon…
Here are the most common.
What’s your favourite film?
It’s really down to the people I’m with, time and amount of beer consumed. But I’d have to say Taxi Driver gave me the most go-go.
How do you handle it when people slag-off your films?
I get more offended by people who eat brussel sprouts or drink low alcohol beer in front of me.
What do you say to filmschool cry-babies when you met them?
Can I get another beer – sorry, thought you were the waiter.
Do you think we’ll ever have a real film industry in Australia?
I do. Once we get rid of the wank – where people think making films is all about sipping lattes in Balmain. Once we get rid of that and get to the nuts and bolts – how it’s about entertainment. Then we’ll have an industry.
What was going to Cannes like?
It sends the right message to film-makers – take nothing seriously.
What do you think of Russell Crowe?
How do you get the money to make your films?
Beg, borrow and steal.
Have you ever worked with anyone who’s been to filmschool?
No.
How cute is Sindy Ray?
More than cute – she’s fantastic.
What’s it like working with Jed Hendrix?
Great, just don’t get him to drive.
