Art The Curse
November 6th 2006 02:41
Many people think film-making is all about getting laid. Many people think being artistic and creative is a gift. Well, it’s not all about getting laid and it’s a curse. A curse from birth, like having two vaginas.
I’m thinking Lenny Bruce here.
This is how I see art;
There’s this huge boulder (art) and at the top of the hill is the artists’ sense of completion (recognition). The artist is behind the boulder trying to push it up the hill. If the artist stops pushing, the boulder stops, it all stops until the artist starts pushing again.
But just say, after twenty years the artist is simply too tired. Or can’t see the point. Or reaches the top and still can’t see the point.
If the artist is lucky enough.
But many can’t let go.
Or deal with the thought of never receiving the recognition they crave, live for, deserve. They become disillusioned or bitter and twisted.
It’s the curse.
And how do you get rid of a curse?
Simple, find a Gypsy.
Oh yeah and you might need a chicken.
I can tell you that in between projects Duke and I are a mess. If we’re not working we’re not worth talking to. We often talk about what it would be like to be free from the creative curse. How perhaps one day some mad de-registered medical practitioner will find an easily applied cure for said curse. In fact, there would be an attractive and hygienic plastic applicator included – BANG, problem solved.
Now there’s a film.
Until next time and happy film-making.
