Another Top Ten List
November 4th 2006 10:05
Tracy sent me her top ten Aussie films:
Somersault - very atmospheric
Lantana
Head On
Two Hands
Little Fish
Look Both Ways
Japanese Story
Kiss or Kill
Shine
Picnic at Hanging Rock
John Doe adds:
The Last Wave
Gallipoli
The Tracker
Alexandra's Project
Breaker Morant
The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith
Devils Playground
And mentions:
Undead
Turkey Shoot
Patrick
Love it. Of course, Patrick was put-together by the same people who made Fantasm. In fact, the money they made from Fantasm paid for Patrick. That’s true guerrilla film-making.
But I can’t help thinking everyone would get kick out of The Man from Hong Kong. I think Brian Brown has a moustache in Two Hands but he’s not even close to George Lazenby.
Picnic At Hanging Rock is interesting – 1975 was a spin-cycle time for Aussie films. Next post I’ll talk about how 1975 changed everything.
But for now.
Duke and I are shooting, Duke & Leon’s Film School Christmas Special.
We were at a loss between series and I thought of Bing Crosby. When in doubt, do a Christmas Special. I think the theme so far is family and hygiene. And somewhere we’ll chuck in Santa and Jesus. Duke’s also trying to hook-up a masked wrestler from Melbourne.
Until next time and happy film-making.
